Farm chores in Utah - Sourdough Dutch Baby Recipe

In this video, we'll show you how we take care of our goats, chickens, and pigs in the snow. We bundle up in warm clothing and head out into the chilly morning to feed and water our animals. But that's not all! We'll also be making some delicious pancakes using fresh ingredients from our farm. You'll get to see the whole process, from gathering eggs from our chickens to mixing the batter and baking it in our cast iron in our oven. As you watch, you'll see how we manage our daily farm chores despite the snowy conditions. SOURDOUGH DUTCH BABY PANCAKE RECIPE for high elevations Ingredients:

8 eggs

2 cups sourdough starter

1 1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

2 Tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional)

6 Tbsp butter

Instructions: Put cool 10-12 inch cast iron skillet in cool oven. Preheat oven to 425º F with the cast iron skillet inside. Blend eggs, sourdough starter, milk, salt, vanilla, and honey until it's full of bubbles and smooth. Remove the hot cast iron skillet and add the butter to the 10-12 inch cast iron skillet. Pour the batter over the melted butter and place into the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes until puffed up. Do not open the oven door for at least 15 minutes so the pancake doesn't deflate. Serve right away with butter, fruit, or syrup.

Notes: Make sure your cast iron skillet is nice and hot. This can be made using sourdough discard or active sourdough starter.

Our dairy herd provides our family with creamy sweet milk which we also use to make goat milk soaps and lotions. We grow herbs and flowers in our garden to use for soaps, salves and lotions. We are a family of seven living the rural life on about five acres in Northern Utah. Mom, Dad, teenagers, kids and toddler all help to take care of the animals. We get to all be home together everyday - we homeschool year around with breaks for goat kidding, garden planting and harvest time. We make most of our meals from scratch and many times using products from our land and animals.
